Hi all,
I don't have access to my IPL's at the moment so I was wondering if a fellow member could help me out with this one:
I am chasing a part number for the clip on recoil starter cover which is fitted to the Homelite 700 / 900 series saws. I think we all know this cover as so many saws these days are missing them!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Chris.

Are you referring to the screen that covers to air slots? This is an option on the 700 through 904 but became standard on the 921 through 925 saws. The part number is A64421.

Hi Chris, I believe you are referring to cover AA-73234,...the ole' Homelite ashtray, as they were referred to by some old timers. I don't believe Homelite ever provided the clip separate from the cover,...they were always sold as one unit. The clip should not be that hard to reproduce,...a little piece of thin spring steel. You may need to heat it to bend it. I would need to check my metallurgy books to see if you would then need to quench it to retain its spring toughness.
They are a little hard to find. The good news is that, as far as I can tell, Homelite never changed the design on these covers. They were the same all the way from the 5-30N to the EZ, the 700 series, the 900 series, the 7-19s, 7-21s, 6-22, Model 17, 4-20 and 5-20s. Many times, there are parts saws around that still have this cover.....that is how I have found all the covers for my collection saws.
Probably not this year, but, sometime in 2011, I plan to look into having an extrusion die made to have these covers made out of aluminum, just like the originals. Capital is obviously the issue,....I have already started a design for the die....we will see. In the mean time, they are still around,...you just have to go looking for them. When they show up on ebay, they typically go for $20-$40 each. If you need one badly, save up a little cash and wait for one,....they will show up.
Hope that helps! Talk to you soon! Joe

Thanks MCS and Joe for your replies. I was referring to the cover 73234 - or the 'Homelite ashtray' as Joe referred it as being called years ago. You can see why it got its name though, especially when so many were removed and left off or lost. I managed to get hold of this new one, so pretty happy to do so. I managed to pick up a couple of 900G saws, both of which are missing their starter covers, so at least one will now be allocated a new cover. I will do as you suggested Joe, and keep a keen eye out for more. The new replacement cover idea that you are drawing up is a good one. I am sure that many of the Homelite collectors would be interested in these - should they become available in the future. Thanks again for your help, Chris. Attachments:
