I picked this beauty up last night. The guy that sold it to me said it was locked up. It has been in a barn for several years. When I saw it it was dirty, but I knew she would clean up nice. pulled the muffler off expecting to see major damage, but it looked like a new piston and cylinder. I pulled the flywheel and yes a case bolt had backed out and was hitting the flywheel. I cleaned the carb out and put a new fuel line and filter and she fired right up. Not bad for 50 bucks. The Ut # is 10415B. Serial HJ3070340. I wonder when this saw was made. It had to be near the end of Homelite as we know it.

Nice saw Wonder why the bar is generic - no HomeliteSecond digit in the 9 digit serial is the year. Looks to be a 1988 LETTER CODE FOR YEARS: C-1981 D-1982 E-1983 F-1984 G-1985 H-1986 I-1987 J-1988 K-1989 L-1990 M-1991 N-1992 O-1993 P-1994 Q-1995 R-1996 S-1997 T-1998 U-1999 V-2000 W-2001 X-2002 Y-2003 Z-2004

Nice saw Wonder why the bar is generic - no Homelite Good point - One that nice, I'd expect factory bar too. Unless it had a long one, and the owner just didn't want to lug it around?

I don't know about the bar. It would look much better with a NOS 24" Homelite bar. One thing I don't care for on the saw is the govenor on the Tilly carb. I might take care of that. The saw has had the manual oiler replaced with an older model 925 pump assembly.

That's a beautiful saw and a heck of a deal. It looks like the very last 925s may have actually had 77cc engines on 'em instead of the 82cc. Ric posted a brochure that showed this and Bill mentioned it in regards to a Homelite service "fix" for 925s that ran hot. Got a couple of the newer one's here and just never checked. Doubt there's many newer than this one... shoot it looks brand new for that matter. Very sweet saw. Dan

I had one on my watch list on ebay. It went for $385 I think. It looked clean but not this clean. Great find. I have found horse manure in most the barns Ive been in!

I have, in the past, beat 925s without mercy. They took whatever I did and kept cutting. I have forestry story about such a thing, I'll see about posting it.

Awesome saw I'd love to have a SXL-925 It's the later design of the 925 - I didn't know that there was no screen on it (starter cover)

Randy you do need to post some of your stories here. Very interesting and entertaining. Are you and Humboltred related? I have the upmost respect for what you guys have did in the past and love hearing about it.

Awesome saw I'd love to have a SXL-925 It's the later design of the 925 - I didn't know that there was no screen on it (starter cover) Werner I wondered about the screen cover also, but there are no holes on this cover for mounting a screen so I'm pretty sure there was never one on this late model 925.
