I acquired a Homelite Zip a few days ago. This saw is in pristine shape. Been sittin' for awhile, but after I cleaned the dirt and grime off of it... it sparkles. LMAO... ;D I haven't tried to start it yet because it is missing the muffler screen. Anybody (Eric) know where a spark screen might be layin' around? I also need a new air filter. Unless this one can be reused. It is a cylindrical paper filter... So I'm not certain if it is replaceable or not. The bar is in great shape with no rust and you can still read the red lettering that says "Homelite New! Perma-hard tip" I keep findin' these old Homies layin' around... I have yet to pay a dime for one. Most I find are just sittin' like this one was... In a lady's shed. Heard about it through a friend of mine. I tried to offer her money for it, but she wouldn't take it. Gary

You certainly seem to have the bug Gary!
I think I have the muffler cover you need. If Im correct, you have just the big empty box cast into the front of the cyl without the cover (stamped sheet metal), or you need the part that goes in this cover.
Either way I have it, and its yours, just wanting to be clear.

Yep... all it is is the big box in the front of the cylinder. You can see the piston right there in the huge exhaust port. There is a couple of small bolts (one on top and one on bottom of the box) that hold the cover on. Just looked again and didn't see that the "box" was cast into the cylinder? That is different. So this thing is gonna prolly be one loud mofo! LMAO...
Anyways... I guess all i need is the cover. So I can start this thing and it is gonna be that loud no matter what.
Thanks Eric... any leads on an air filter?

LOL, I spaced on the filter question laST NIGHT! (Im prying off the caps loc button right after this post.) I usually try cleaning them out first and then holding them up to the light and looking for holes as their hard as hell to find. The saw actually came with a lil brush that was stored inside the filter and you would just pull it out to remove the chips and replace it for next time. Most of these have been lost/tossed along the way, another hard to find item. Loud? You could say that. ;D My 770 has beed dubbed "The Loudest Saw On Earth" as the muffler and guts are only held on via a bent nail, Pm Me your addy Gary, I still have to brave the snomelt in the yard to go double check, but I think I have what you need. Eric

Got 'er fired up today... Won't stay runnin' though. Needs a carb rebuild. I'm sure the diaphram is hard and the fuel filter needs to be replaced. But she barks nice and loud. It's not quite as loud as the 770G... but louder than the C-51. This is gonna be a nice saw when I'm done messin' with it. This saw is in the best shape out of any old saw I have found. Gary
