Alright, Here is the short story. I inherited the homelite gene from my father. He gave me a C-9 when I was a younger man for a back up saw to his 750. We have a unique fishing sport in WI(Sturgeon spearing) that requires a chainsaw to particepate. When a co-worker was fed up with his extremly expensive Husky not performing in the cold and wet of cutting Ice, he promptly offered me too much money for my c-9 and dad said sell it! I only paid $45 for it. The next season my father left bar oil in his saw as he cut my hole and I had steam blowing out of my ears as I looked thru a oil slick trying to harvest a dinasaur sturgeon. I promptly bought a c-7 to back up his saw, ( I will cut my own hole thank you) found baileys and acquired a long bar and chain. C-7 cuts to slow. I found Mike Acres site and found out why my father saw rips thru Ice and water. 11K-12K rpm. I moved up to a 1050. Pops kicked my butt again. I found a 750 at a saw shop here in WI. bought it cheap it only needs a piston and rings. hahahahaha. I can't find one. After 2-1/2 years of watching Epay, I paid to much and I acquired a pile of 750 that...... You guessed it needs a piston and rings and cyl.... So I am searching around and found the HOH how cool is that. Here is my parts dream. Please help. I have two 750'S the better one needs: 84632 Spike plate (2) 70489B cyl A 70672-A piston I may be able to save the cyl and knurl the piston then I would only need: 68193-A rings The other one (pretty crappy but runs weak) needs: A 12742A filter 88057 Bolts (hardware store)10-24x2" A93001-A Bracket for air filter A93294 Shield A12714 handle 12786-A Bracket for handle 84632 Spike plate (2) I have some wants as well. I borrowed out a 98 concrete saw and it came back missing the idle adjust screw. I will get a part number soon. I want to get a rim drive for a c-7. I want to try 3/8 chain on my 1050 I want to compile as many combinations of 404 and 375 Drive sprockets as I can. I want your secret Ice cutting grind too. Sorry for the short story but I am new here and figured the story might help. I think a picture of my Ice saws is in this message. Thanks in advance Mike In East central WI.

Ah yes.... pistons for a 750. It is a very nice dream.... same situation here Mike. Been looking for one for a while now with no luck. But there is a little ray of sunshine in this otherwise dismal picture. There was a post on AS a little while ago where Hoss was looking into having some made. Kyle and Edge and Engine also indicated there may be some in the works. Seems there a good many 750s sitting around out there that would be very happy to get a new piston. So, there is the possibility of some coming in the hopefully not to far away future. Granted they won't be factory original, but if a reputable company makes 'em, they may be good enough to work.

Oh, and as for the rim drive on the C-7, check out an ebay seller called little red barn power equipment. It may be easiest to just search for "C7 sprocket" under ebay.

Just curious why there are so many 750's needing pistons/rings. Did/does the saw have a particular weakness that causes a lean condition or unfiltered air problem?

Bill, are you holding out?? ;D
I guess I should probably watch the wise cracks.
On a serious note I cruised thru the red barn store. He had a couple sprokets but mostly chains and bars. Does that person have a real store outside of the virtual one? I like to call knowledgable people, I have a lead for homelite parts from the small engine guy here at work. I guess hunting for parts will have to be part of the fun. (I just noticed bills phone number) I am a air head.
Mike
BTW I started this message at 9:30 it is now 10PM Bill thank you for your time, I learned a lot.

Just curious why there are so many 750's needing pistons/rings. Did/does the saw have a particular weakness that causes a lean condition or unfiltered air problem? Interesting question.... Actually only one of mine has a piston that could stand replacing, and its not that bad, but I'd rather replace if one's available. I think the air filtration used on 650/750s is good. My other 750s and the 650s all have pretty good looking internals. I think for one, if there's a 750 out there, people want to get 'em running, so you hear about it. I mean how many 450s are out there that could use a new piston? Differences are you CAN find a 450 piston (not easy, but possible) and 450s aren't as much fun as a 750 (at least to me). You're much more apt to hear about someone looking for a 750 piston. On another note, I had started a thread a littlw while back regarding the WB carbs on 650s and 750s. houseofhomelite.proboards55.com/index.cgi?board=tech&action=display&thread=400It looks like the 750 has a smaller venturi and a larger main jet than the 650. This being the case, I think the 750s would have a carb that delivers adequete fuel per the air allowed. Still.... its an interesting question......... Dan

Earl, at Johns Saw Service in Neenah WI told me the burned up saw in the box was caused by a Air leak at the boot. He stated it was common for these saws to draw air in. this saw is buggered up on the exhaust side of the piston...
I thought it was if it is burned on the intake side its hot, under oiled. Burnt on the exhaust side, lean air to fuel ratio.
The rubber boot on the one saw feels more like malleable tar than rubber.??

Great point Mike to mention the boots. Any of the saws with boots that are ran with a crack are going to have a problem. Something not really unique to 750s though. This pertains to a bunch of Homelites. All the pro series (350-750), the 330, 410, 540, 8800, all have a soft rubber boot that can crack and/or become mush. It may very well be that most 750 piston issues are related to boot failures. Hard to say wihhout some samples.

the thing about the boots is they do after a period of time start to decentagrate the rubber will turn into mushy type substance and practically melt and get sticky over time

Alright I feel an update is in order. I have had some success with my parts search. I have all the parts listed I need to get my good 750 back togther. I actually need to procure one more. As soon as I find the phone number for the most awesome gentlemen that offered me the last remaining part I will Get that pc and then begin the assembly. The only downer is I am now running a 650 air cover with the 1/4 turn twist nut instead of the threaded 750 nut. I will live, and I think only a Homelite guy would notice. Another wish item is the massive Spike, I was able to come up with a shorty and biggy but My fathers saw has a really big spike and that will keep me and the clutch a little further from the water. I am going to try and make a sPike. Mike

Wow! That's awesome. Do you actually mean to say you've been able to locate a new 750 piston ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? This has to be the most elusive part in all existance known to mankind!

Dan, Don't hate me. The piston wasn't the feature of my field trip...... I saw a New 1050,8800,410 *all* of the JD homelites, and at least 10 mint 700 series saws, when I picked up my parts. I am going back, I will bring a camera. xl114 with a compression release. new pioneer that looked like a super xl

I don't even know, we were going through my list one item at a time, he would get a plastic tote dig out a part, we would agree on a price and then we would go on to another part. I was so floored he had one (and I did not want to be greedy) that I kind of lost my mind. I promised him I would hook him up with a running ice auger, (I noticed he drilled holes by hand.) I have two jiffy ice augers and barely use one. When I go back to deliver the auger I will ask if the conversation goes that way. Mike p.s. I see you are in florida. here is a link to an Ice auger. www.jiffyonice.com/power_drills.htm#3hp

Hi Mike, Yessir, not much use for ice augers here! We've just had a cold snap where the temps have dropped into the 40s and it feels COLD. Really get spoiled with the warm winters here, but miss out on snow and other good things like ice fishing. If he happens to have another one, you can count one person on the list that would be very interested in purchasing it!
Thanks and Merry Christmas, Dan

Oh 40 ! brrrrrrr. I went out in -6 degree temps with 30 mph wind to haul a truck home for a buddy. hooking up the hitch and checking lights in the wind is getting old. 40 would feel like summer. Alright the final part is in the mail. Thanks Eric! There is going to be a fresh 750 coming soon. Dan I will have a cyl, piston and rings sitting around when I am done. they are distressed but will be operational. I intend to compression test and run the refurbished parts on the Old saw. The rings are 57.1mm poulan or partner rings ground down to homlite specs. Merry Chirstmas to you as well. Mike
