It looks like there's a 7-19 available out here.
Any comments on this beast?

I have a 7-19C and it runs pretty good. It is the one that started my collection back in 1978. I run it every now and then but I do not work it to hard. I would hate to break it.
Not much of a review, nothing bad to say. It's loud but that is the way most saw's were back then.

Nice to see you post again - it's been awhile I don't ever remember getting a final update on your last gear drive project. Did you every find a piston and cylinder? The 7-19 should fit right into your collection ;D Craig

Thanks for the replies. I'll see if I can pick up the saw.
MCS: I left for a while because we had moderator here who was literally like a Mad Bull in the glassware department. I got tired of the mind games, and it took all of the fun out of Homies! So I am back.
After a LOT of searching, I have found and purchased two (used) cylinder/piston pairs for my 775G and it simply waits for me to finish it. Since I was here last, I have picked up a bunch of very nice Homies of various vintages, and passed up some other very nice ones because of the price.
BTW: if anyone wants me to find a saw available out there in the US somewhere, I would be happy to fire up the search engine and find it (as I have in the past). No promises though, because sometimes they are just not out there anywhere at any price.
thanks,
-Doug

HI DOUG
Ditto on the welcome back Ditto on the *You getting you butt jumped for posting to much on the search thing*
7-19 I had one and it was light for what it was. I thought it was cool and gear drives have a special spot in the history of dropping trees. Look for the one I had to show up here all shiny and clean as the man who has it is a master at restoring homelite saws.... $.02 Please

The guy won't respond! I can't get him to call me. I expanded the picture some, and it looks like the bar is rusty but the body is in good shape with a lot of the original paint. No "ashtray" (damn). Sure would look nice on the shelf next to that beautiful 5-20.

I got it, folks. What a beast. Sixty bucks. The chain is maybe 50%, and the bar was reground some years back. He has had it for 25 years. No ashtray. Sometime, when the wife is out for a few hours I will fire it up.

OBR - will do, as soon as I can get time on a Saturday to line up the beasts and borrow my wife's camera. The 775 is still waiting for assembly (I have the parts!).
This 7-19 was actually USED regularly by a guy who has 35 acres and needed a saw to do some thinning from time to time. He got it at a garage sale 25 years ago. By contrast, the 5-20 was owned by a guy who inherited it from his Dad, and it was used in Montana on a farm for the first 25 years of its life and then set in the garage for another 30 years. Usually, by the time that they get to me they have been taking up space and tripped over for a long time (like: decades).
The 7-19 owner was surprised when I told him that I intended to get these saws into some sort of museum someday.

Having to re-learn picture hosting, let's try a simple sequence. The 7-19 shares a box with the 5-20, in my driveway today. Picture Hosting - well you did pretty good, but....... remember to watch the picture size so we don't have to scroll left and right. These pictures affect all of the 20 most recent and will until they roll off the end.

OK - I even downsized them to 1024x768! I will try to fix the size at imageshack.
thanks,

That looks pretty good, so the magic number is 512x384. Hopefully this won't screw up any of the other recent posts.

Craig has posted a super easy way to resize pictures. Open them with 'Paint', click image, click strech & skew. The default #'s are 100%, Take them down to about 25 or 30 %, ( I think you hit OK) then save. Maybe Craig will post the link, It is a real time saver. Jim

Nice looking saws... Im ready for the ice and snow to melt off of everything so I can actually work on and with some saws again.... I miss em Ditto on Jim's suggestion... I save pics to desktop...open paint, drag em in, click resize, set to 25-30%, save and it works great for most all applications.

I think that we had this picture discussion a year ago. I just use Microsoft Picture Manager, which I understand not everybody has. It only takes a few seconds to resize. I just have to remember to whack them down to 512 before posting, because I couldn't figure out how to resize them on imageshack and their help guide was no help. My camera is a Sony F7 which cost as much as a used car in 2002. It's old now, but I take 4M photos with it (usually). So 512 is 1/8th original size.
In the next couple of weeks I will try to pull out all of the saws and line them up and do a photo shoot. There are half a dozen XL-12 and SXL, a couple of XL98s (one is parts), 2 C5s, the 5-20, the 7-19, and a bunch of 770/775 stuff. I need to find some time and warm weather to finish the 775g. I also need to get a couple of them ready to do some real work, because I should have a tenant moving in the summer and most of the places need something cleaned up.
thanks,
-Doug

Doug...I just got a 4-20 gear drive running last weekend. It was really funny...she fired up after a carb rebuild and it was so loud the other 2 guys ran out of the shop !! I believe chainsawlady mentioned that the recoil covers were common between several models. I needed one for the 4-20 and she sent me one off a 775G. Looks like it will fit but I have not mounted it yet.
