So in measuring bar grooves, a used .050 I can usually get .058 in or am I trying too hard? Is there an actual guage for measuring bars or just feeler guages. If a bar is worn enough can you run the next guage or is it just time for a new bar?

Dont push so hard. I have a set of guage pins for measuring and correcting bar groves. IIRC, the grove width listed on the bar is actually the width of the drive tang on the chain, the groove is a smidge larger. Again, IIRC, a .050 bar should guage around .053, at .058 its plenty whooped. .
