After getting my first XL up and running, I am starting on another, older XL. I removed the carb and while looking for the model, I noticed that this carb only had one adjustment screw. It is for the low adjustment, the high adjustment is blank, nothing at all.
Is this correct, I have never seen a carb without both adjustment needle screws?
The guy at the NAPA store listed the carb, it is a Homelite, made by WAlbro, model HDC 35, and ordered me a kit.
Anybody have a part number for the carb with both adjustment needles? My IPL only lists the single adjustment needle.
Do I need to look for another carb, or will this work with only one adjustment screw?
Thanks!

Go ahead and use it. They are set up to run pretty darn good. I'm working on an XL too and it only has the low adjustment. The engine runs just fine but I can't get the oiler to work. It is the "pressurized tank" style. Probably needs a duck bill.

Look at Walbro HDC-65C (A94649D) used on the Super 2, or HDC-67C (A96621C) used on XL2VIS & Super 2. They both have H&L adjusting needles. I have a couple of HDC-67C's. I also have a couple of A96621 in the Homelite boxes, but they are twice the price. The duck bill number is 69451 and the connector is 69659-1.
I hope this helps, maybe someone can double check me. Navymac

I went through the IPLs I have and I know the XL2 originally had High and Low adjustments but somewhere along the line it looks like they tried to use a fixed high speed - maybe only for a short time. The single triggered XL I'm working on has a fixed high speed and it runs great. I was going to rebuild this carburetor but I pull the top and bottom plates off and the carburetor was clean as a whistle inside and the pump diaphragm looked perfect. I just stuck it back together and left it alone. So, unless you feel it really needs both adjustments, try running it with the fix high carburetor.

Got a couple Super 2s here with fixed H jet, and they run fine also. At times I've thought whether to pursue swapping out with a different carb, but keep reminding myself of the old saying "if it works, don't try to fix it". It does kinda seem wierd though not having a that extra adjustment to play with.
