Hello all,
I am new to this forum. I have an ol Blue SXLAO. I can't get it to idle, It will start up fine and run at high speed fine but let off and it dies.
I got it for $40 at a garage sale, I figured eh why not. It started an ran fine. I went to use it for the first time and got about halfway through 1 cut and it started cutting out on me and then got to the point it wouldn't run at all.
First I tried a new plug... Champ CJ6... no change.
Second I tried putting a carb kit in it....no change.
Next I got into the ignition and found the points were really burned. I filed them the best I could and put it back together.
Which brings me to were I am now, it starts without any problem and runs at speed fine. Let off the trigger and it dies. I have tryed adjusting the low speed jet with no change, Anywhere from 1/2 turn out to 1 1/2 turns out.
Should I try getting new points and maybe a condensor? Is there a kit to change over to solid state? and is that advisable?
Maybe I have no business working on chainsaws LOL
Thanks Dave

Hi Dave!
You seem to be doing fine with the saw, you checked out the usual suspects and got results.
Your saw could be converted to solid state, but I done see the need, you will need to replace your flywheel and coil to the proper Electronic parts.
Im thinking you should start out by giving the idle screw 1 full turn in. This is the screw that is above the needle screws. Also set your needles to one turn out from lightly seated and see how she runs.
When you did the carb kit were you sure to clean out all of the lil passages in the carb body?
You could also have a clog on the L side of the carb.
Let me know how you make out and we'll go from there.

I blew air through all of the pasages.
I'll try the idle screw adjustment.
Thanks, Dave

Well Guys,
I finally took it to a freinds house today to work on it, we tryed adjusting the idle high and low speed jets. No change at all. He said to get new points and if that doesn't work to try changeing the reeds.

CG, I have your points if you want them, but first why not try reseting the gap on these to see if there is any change.
I had a lil echo once that drove me nuts, it would run, but had no response and seemed to have every problem under the sun.....Intermitently.
The point gap on that saw was set at .030!
Set it to .015 and every problem it had went away.
Believe it or not, if the engine is firing too late it can affect the way the fuel charge flows through the engine.
