what do you folks recommend for making the seal/gasket on the xp1000 when I put it back together? I heard somewhere JB Weld might work....should I try it...or try to find some gasket sealer?

Everybody has their preferences, but I'll vote for cutting out a new gasket. Never know when ya may need to crack her open for something in the future.

JB might just Weld it together for good I'd use Perma Tex Form A Gasket or something similar that is resistant to gas. Yamabond will work too. Too bad they don't make Homebond.

Craig is correct....the Perma-Tex Aviation is a good liquid sealer and is gas resistant. I used it successfully several months ago on a leaking SXL tank seam. I have not tried YamaBond, but understand it is good as well.

thanks for the replies ....It kinda dawned on me this morning as I thought about it,thet the JB might be a more permanent solution...and not a good idea. I'll check NAPA for the permatex.

I worked on a c-5 for an ol'boy one time that had the j-b fix on it.The front bottom had since rotted out and he wanted it replaced. That was no fun.It has the permatex on it now.
