So there seem to be an abundance of c5's around and no c9 Im thinking of changing crank, p and c, and rod in a c5 to make one. I even have a c7 that would be a good candidate with a scored piston. So to get to my questions. Ive found a couple cranks, are there any p and c's anywhere? Rods? Can a c5/7 cyl be bored and replated. Are those the only differences? Any serial # plates around? Anyone done this yet? Have a great Christmas everyone!

I did something like this last fall. I got a C5 with a scored piston and cylinder, but I get attached to things way too much and couldn't bring myself to junk it. The rest was too good. The local shop had a NOS C9 cylinder and I found a piston. The C7's and 9's had the same stroke. The 5's and 7's have the same bore, so this ended up kindof a de-stroked C9. I just used gasket sealer on the base to raise compression, opened up the exhaust and put a bigger carb on it. It is kinda hard to start because of the high compression but it sure runs good. It handles a 36" .404 b&c real good in ash and oak.

Do you need a copy of Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time" while you work on this

Hi Polardoo,
My C5,51,52 have a single reed and the C9 has a 4 reed setup. I do not have a C7 so I'm not sure what reed setup that have.
I can't justify the price for a re-chrome job so I'm holding out for one to come along.
I ended up with a new 2" Cylinder.
Since I do not plan on selling any of my saws, only I would know the real deal if I went ahead and put it together for now to get it running.
