Hello Today I rebuilt my Homelite 450 and she run great. I've thought that the 550 and 450 are the same expect of the carb and cui. But on my 450 there is no mount for the chain stop and the recoil housing is fixed only with 4 screws, not with 5.... I've 2 same guide-bar bolts (not a round headed one) Also the handle bar and tank is different (The ends of the handle-bar are flat, not round) In my IPL (Rev1) from the 450 there is all similar to the 550 In the case parts there is stamped "BOSCH" instead of "LUNT" Exotic machine?? By the way I've mounted the rebuilt carb from a 550 and now she starts on the first pull best regards from Austria Werner

Definitely sounds unique Werner. All the 450 and 550s I've came across pretty sure had the same case parts and all of 'em are Lunt. If ya got a Bosch case, it something I don't think is common in the states. Please post a pic, cause this sounds like a neat find.
Glad you got her running well!

Ok, let's play: Find the mistake ;D The saw: In the back a Homie 550 tank No chain stop... Hope you can see it, the bar studs are the same (Also the tank screw in front is different to the 550) For testing the saw I've installed a 550 starter, it works very well but it fits not 100% (Still have to repair the 450 starter) Pretty sure that the 450 was delivered without hand guard Maybe the B stands for Bosch? This is really an eye opener Werner. Just compared the first edition IPL with Rev 1, and sure enough, the parts you've pointed out are different! Looks like you have one of the original 450s. I've never paid any attention and always assumed a 450 was a 450, but sure enough, this is not the case. Great question would be if Bosch made all the original castings for the original series. Thanks for bringing this up. Wonderful to find out all these details.

Hello Dan The backshroud of the saw is a Lunt...... Today I've finished the saw Put a recoil cover from a 550 on the starter cover and changed the decal. Also grinded the rusty bar but have to replace it soon, it's worn. But I can take a few cuts with it. Also put a 2nd dog on it. Not that beauty but runs great ;D

Werners, Rebuilt saws with new paint do have some beauty but I think a nicely repair, well preserved "working" saw has a certain appeal that doesn't exist in the new paint. Nice looking saw - I like it Craig

Nice looking saw - I like it Craig I agree completely. I will usually fix any mechanical issues replace any broken pieces and make sure a saw is complete, but beyond that I won't do much as I like to run em hard as much as I like lookin at em.

Werner, that saw turned out well. I have yet to see (or hear of) a saw that cut wood better because it was re-painted. Besides that....new paint ruins the "patina" of a used saw.
