How's deer (or elk) been this year in the rest of the US? My son shot this one Tuesday AM. I don't know if he got hit by a car or if he picked on someone bigger than himself ;D

Our season opened on Sat. I sat in the stand Sat. & Sun. and did not see a deer. It's warm here, the deer don't have to move much to find food, and the hunters don't have to move much to keep warm. Cold snap coming end of next week, that should lite it up a bit. Jim

Well, om Monday I got a deer and never pulled the trigger. Someone hit an 8 pointer right in front of my work. It happened right at dawn, the darn thing died right at the edge of the parking lot.

Thats cheatin! Unless you live in PA then its an accepted hunting technique providing you #a have a gun in the truck you hit it with and (b keep the insurance money you get for the damages and buy hunting/fishing/shooting gear.

In Illinois you can hit deer and not even report them. That is as long as you do not want to file an insurance claim. Now I would imagine if you leave the road to deliberatley hit one that would be a different story. I hit a small buck with my old truck a few years back. He was dead on impact. I backed up tossed him the back and went home. When I called the police. The woman said there was no need to file a report as long as I was not filing a claim.

Here in NY, we need a tag no matter what. But you just call a trooper or the animal control officer and they give you one. Technically you are not supposed to move a deer until it's tagged, but I've never been hassled. Jim
