Yea...I am kind of curious about a locked-up saw being a no brainer.

Pretty easy,a shop I used to work in made money selling the guy a saw, sometimes one we had acquired the same way and the guy would give him the saw for junk then he would have me fix it and put it up for sale was not the way I would do but he was the one signing my paycheck. GOOD GUESS

GOOD GUESS And this is the reason one bad repair shop gives them all a bad wrap. No offense to 925fetish but it does not seem to be something I would brag about In my book...it is the same as stealing. Like selling bagged ice for $10 during a hurricane.

Yep. Stories like this are the reason I push everybody to learn to work on stuff themselves. I had one bad experience with a car when I was 16, and I swore I'd never take anything to a shop if I could even remotely figure it out myself. What I've learned is that nothing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, etc. is magic. Fixing things yourself is a way to learn, have fun, and prevent repeats of stories like this. My time is certainly worth that.

Just little story I recall happened in our shop with a locked up SXL. This customer whom we knew quite well came in with the motor locked up. He had plenty of money, so my husband said he would contract to fix the saw for $5.00. He jumped at that offer and we proceeded to repair the saw while he waited. When he saw what little time it took to fix it, he started stammering like crazy. Didn't think we earned that much. Of course that was a few years ago and we had a very low labor rate. He was sure the motor was ruined, and expected to pay a lot more than that to get it fixed. chain saw lady

925fetish, I applaud your integrity and I hope the shop owner adjusts his business practices to be more customer friendly. I understand that business needs to make a profit, but to intentionally take advantage of someone is wrong.
