Ok it is not technically new.... It was won at a Ducks unlimited banquet. sat under a work bench many years, the owner passed away and a son in law *inherited* the saw.
He promptly put fuel in it_minus the oil_ and destroyed the piston. It went to a saw shop and laid there until a naive homelite enthusiast inquired about big homelites.
I have a very pretty saw with a new cyl and piston and boot and fuel lines and on and on....... a few scuffs from being moved around dissassembled.
Would you : A start it. B sell it. Either by trading or out right cash C try to acquire the owners manual and keep it forever.
back ground info: I have a beater 750 that I use and race. I have a pretty 750 with a chain brake for Ice cutting in winter.

Being that the saw is not "New" never ran, I would run it occasionally. But that means you now would have 3 750 runners. Is that to many? I don't know. You could sell one of the other ones. Cutting and racing doesn't beat up a saw to bad, it's what they are designed to do (cutting). It's letting them get kicked around when they are not cutting that makes them look $hitty. My vote is to run it. Whether or not you sell one is up to you. CSW

I know this sounds odd but...................I would not have fixed it . I would have displayed it in the family room. Now that you fixed it run it like you stole it (cause you probably did) ;D Bill

Fair enough, I am going to run it.
Although Bill's admire it comment has merit. I have been staring at a 750 piston new in the box for way to long. there is some enjoyment in admiring things.
I am going to assemble the new parts, put on a new bar and chain. wax it, start it, cut with it, then drain it. In my mind I know it will be one of the freshest 750's around. thamks for the input.
Mike.

MIke Not even one picture I got a little confused reading your posting about the "new" 750. When you got it, did it have a new cylinder and piston or did you get it with the scored piston and cylinder and you have a new one to install on it

Yea, if ya gotta take it down anyway to fix it up, might as well run it would be my vote. Then again, if ya got a couple others, I doubt I'd be running it all that much!

MIke Not even one picture I got a little confused reading your posting about the "new" 750. When you got it, did it have a new cylinder and piston or did you get it with the scored piston and cylinder and you have a new one to install on it I got it partially disassembled in a box, I assembled it and it ran.(poorly) I have a post around here somewhere when I first joined asking for parts..... That inquiry led me to a collector who had a piston. ERic or RBW who had a cyl. (that needed machining) and thechainsaw lady who had the right cyl. As of right now I just need to get some sealant for the base gasket and then put it together. I have a couple of honey do's first: Todays project was to finish a rebuild of a very old wrap around porch of the house. 150 and Super XL were widely interchanged with a circular saw. I am preparing to build a tile surround for a new wood stove, xl 98 will be cutting tile soon. Then the build will begin. I will get some photos as i go.

If I had one that was truly mint, as in never had gas, I'd probably unload it to a collector that wanted to keep it that way. For me, no shelf sitters allowed! The saw that doesn't get used gets the boot. I hope this one works out, sometimes when stuff "sits" under a bench for years, rubber, plastic, seals, etc. go to pot. Hope it wasn't right next to the woodstove.

If I owned that saw, I would repair it, fog it (preservation) and then sit on it for awhile. As you must have gotten a good deal, own 2 others that work and run....I would view this one as an investment !

Mike that was my original thought. sell it. then use the money for other big homelites. I figured once I start it, I can't say new piston and cyl anymore.

Money can be earned , but its not that easy to replace a never-fueled virgin 750. I realize its not really NOS, but still its about as close as a human being can come to such a rare and incredible machine. The only question I'd ponder would be what special event to (if ever) actually fire her off for the first time. Just my $0.02 Dan
