Working on my first 330 which has the Zama carb. Have experience with old Poulans and Stihls but this problem has me wondering if its carb related or possibly something else. I rebuilt carb but when trying to start saw it sputters once and thats it. I notice fuel in the muffler and the plug is soaked. Do you think the metering lever is too high? Manual calls for metering height to be from .0 to .012 in. below body of carb. I think I'm well within those parameters. Am I missing something or is there some other issue I'm not aware of? Thanks. PS found this site by accident but I like the info on Homy saws. Bob

Personally I feel the issue is Zama carbs are junk. I have two super XL's one with a Zama and one with a Walbro and the one with a walbro is a good starter while the zama is a finicky starter and floods about 75% of the time.

Shoot you may have hit upon something. Think I'll tear carb apart again and see what happens. If still a provlem may have to look for a Walbro WT-4.
Thanks. Bob

I would look to the intake boot first before tearing anything down again. You stated it fires briefly and then nothing. That sounds like classic 330 intake boot issue. Oncce you get her dialed in and running be sure to do the muffler mod on thi site as it really wakes a 330 up like a SXL. Good luck and welcome to the site!
