I was gifted with an EZ. It runs great after I cleaned the carb and put in new gas. That is the good news. The bad news is that the chain always seems loose and the chain dulls quickly.
According to the technical service bulletin from March 1985, I found here on the forum the saw was made on November 12, 1981. Below is a link to the serial number plate and the chain I took off the saw.
However on other another website (Chainsaw Collectors Corner) I found information that says the EZ was only made from 1969 - 1974. Is one of them incorrect?
Also I believe the bar and chain that came with it is incorrect. According to the Homelite EZ Chainsaw Product Specification sheet I found here on these forms, the EZ should come with a 12" - 24" bar with a .050" gauge. The chain should be a 72D with a 3/8" pitch.
The bar and chain that came with the saw is 18", .050" gauge, 72D, with a 1/4" pitch. I am assuming that maybe the bar could be correct but the chain is not? It will run with that chain on it but it always seems loose not matter how hard I try to tighten it. I have looked at the bar but I cannot find any markings on it.
Any help would be appreciated and if I am duplicating questions already answered before I apologize. I tried to find this information but could not.

Probably need to review the dating thread again, the blue EZ's are older than 1981. By 1981 they were Super EZ AO's and were all red.
Not sure where the 1/4" pitch number is coming from. The chain pic you posted appears to be some flavor of Oregon 72 style chain, which is 3/8" pitch. How about you count the number of drive links on that chain and get back with us? I'm guessing it's 59 drive links which correlates to 16" which was about all those saws ever came with. Homelite never had an 18" bar for the EZ/SEZ line that I'm aware of.

Thanks for the info. You're correct about the chain I was an idiot and looking at the incorrect # on it. I was looking at the 25 and not the 72 on the drive link. I counted the drive links and there are 59 of them.
As for the dating of it I went with the ID plate that is on the side. As you can see in the picture it read Model: EZ, and the Serial # is 13161777. I got my date from the technical service bulletin that is on the first page of the "Figuring out when that old Homelite was built" thread. Since it was an 8 #, I figured that the 1 is the year which is listed as 1981. Am I missing something?

So that's a very common 16" 3/8" pitch chain.
I let the other wizards handle the dating questions.
