In the last 12months I’ve acquired 4 XL-76s, in various states of serviceability. The most recent 2 keep me up at night. One has a Prestolite coil with numbers of 1.8 ohms and 2500 ohms. Are those good numbers? The other machine cleaned up real nice, but the compression has me baffled. The saw seems to lock up every 3rd or 4th pull. I’ve had it running, tuned up well too, but the recoil just about pulls my arm off. Any thoughts?

Make sure you have the plastic bushing that goes inside the pulley. Check to see if the pulley wobbles under load. Might need some lube in there as well. Good luck figuring it out. The XL-76 is one of Homelite's best effort.

Checking for spark with the plug removed, it turns over no problem. But, it's that 3rd or 4th pull where it just seems to lock up.
