A while back I found my dad's saw and decided to get it running. Since I'm pretty incompetent with this stuff, I asked my neighbor to look at it. He did and then it got put down in his shed. I just got it back the other day to see if I can get it running. properly. It starts real easy when cold and seems to rev up ok. After about a minute, it bogs out and dies. Then I can't get it started. I've started watching Leon's YouTube channel to see if I can learn anything. Any suggestions on where to start are appreciated. Also, the air filter isn't dirty but stiff like it's been cleaned. The manual says to use solvent to clean. What kind of solvent? If I'm reading the info correctly, the saw was made in November 1973 Attachments:

You are correct on the mfgr.date.Welcome to HoH! We're here to help, all you have to do is ask.The first thing to do is change the fuel filter if you haven't done so already. Then a new duck bill in the fuel cap is a good idea too.I've heard people use gas to wash out the air filter, but I've had good luck with Dawn dish soap & it's better for the environment.

Thank you for your suggestions, edju1958. And the welcome.
The air filter looks like someone, previously, cleaned it. But it's real stiff. Will try some Dawn.
Not sure what the duck bill is but will see if I can figure it out.
As Arnold said. "I shall return."

There's a little bronze filter/breather that's pressed into the side of the fuel cap,the duck bill fits in behind that.
FWIW,Douglas MacArthur said "I shall return".Arnold said "I'll be back".

I stand corrected on Arnold's quote.
Cleaned the air filter but the saw did NOT start cold. Well, it did but only ran for a second or two. I may need to mix a little gas. Tank looks a little low. Didn't look like it should be out but I need to be sure.
Does the duck bill get replaced or just the whole cap?

If the fuel that's in the saw is old, dump it out & put in fresh fuel.
Only replace the duck bil,not the entire cap.

It's amazing how many saws are tossed out because the fuel cap isn't venting properly.

I'm going to start with a new fuel filter and a new cap. I found a YouTube video that teaches a pretty systematic step by step for carburetor issues with chain saws. I'll see if that gets me running.
