It is really hard to remove the brass vent from the fuel and oil caps! I’m thinking about drilling a hole in both the tanks where vents are normally located and putting a duckbill vent there and leaving the vented cap as is. Anybody see a problem with that?

Do you think your cap vents are blocked? I have a 240 and 245 and have not removed the brass plugs on either, but importantly I am not suffering from any fuel leakage via the caps or any apparent problem with the oiling systems indicating a vacuum in the tank. I see that the later round flat tank caps do not have duckbills in them - they are fitted directly to the tank as you are suggesting (and as per the XL2/Super 2 series saws). Unless you are suffering symptoms that the vents are blocked, then is the modification needed? Also of course if you have got a fuel leak via the vent due to a disintegrated duckbill it will continue to leak even with your suggested mod. Similarly the oil tank vent on my 330 has the same brass plug that I know I will destroy if I try and remove it to replace the duckbill, so that has been left alone as well! Definitely not designed for quick and easy removal.....

I’m not having any leakage at the time on the saws with vented caps, but I was trying to see what kind of problem I would have removing the brass plug, if needed. My thought was adding vents to tank if the caps stopped venting. I assumed the vents in the tank would allow me to continue using the vented caps even if they stopped venting. Maybe my thought process is skewed. Wouldn’t be the first time! Lol
