Not much of a mechanic, but if someone can tell me how to remove the sprocket on my 245, I'm ready to give it a try. Have the side cover off and there is a 1/2" nut, is it left or right hand thread and how do I keep the shaft from turning when I try to remove the nut?

A quick rap with an impact will usually get it loose. Otherwise you can jam the cylinder. What this means is remove the sparkplug and feed a bunch of small diameter nylon rope into the cylinder until full. This will stop the engine internals from rotating without doing any damage. Hope this helps.

Thank You very much, that is a help. From what I've read elsewhere most sprockets are held on with left hand. Thank You very much.

Clutches are left hand thread, they have to be or they would screw themselves loose under load. But I can't think of a saw, not Homelite anyway, that has a LH nut holding the sprocket on. I'm not saying there's not one because I'm not familiar with all models but the majority are RH thread.

Make sure your piston is past the ports before you feed the rope into the cylinder.
