Good day all. I was wondering if anyone can verify the difference in air filter covers between a C5 and a C51. The two covers are similar. The main difference that is obvious is that the C51 cover sits taller than the C5. I was trying to figure out why a C5/C7/C9 “low profile” cover won’t fit on a C-51 saw properly. They can’t be tightened down enough. I tried to swap the knob but still no change. Is the stud that sits in the intake manifold a different height from one style to the ‘newer “? Different part number on some IPL so I’m a bit confused. Any C series gurus in here that can help explain the difference?

Your question sparked my interest so I tried swapping covers around from a C-5 to a C-51 and vice versa. Both covers tightened down fine on both of my saws. Not sure what's going on with yours??

That is interesting. How tall is the stud sticking out of the intake on your saw?

The studs on both saws stick up 1/2 inch from the intake. Does your low cover from the C-5 have the knurled metal knob?

Yes it does have the metal knob with the knurled design. The stud seems to be a bit taller than 1/2”. Shouldn’t really make any difference though. Maybe the threads are a bit wonky at the base of the stud which is making it difficult to tighten. Weird one for sure!

Thanks for that ! That’s interesting. That service memo seems to explains the issue. The angle of the stud seems to be a bit off for the old cover. I didn’t realize the Reed block was different between the old C and the second generation C. All of the intake parts I’m using are from a C-51. I put a rubber washer under the knob to help it seat better.

xl130: I watched your most recent YouTube video on your C5, then I watched it again. That's a gorgeous saw! Splendid work!
