I recently picked up an Old Town Penobscot 17 project. It is sun damaged, dirty and the seats need some attention, but it will come back around with some labor. Now I have a matching set of red Royalex Old Town Canoes. A Penobscot 17 and a Tripper.

Never fancied myself as a canoeist but I've some some canoeing, did a 50 mile canoe trip with the boy scouts a couple years ago. It was a lot of fun.
I picked up a couple kayaks last year at the "end of summer" sale and I am looking forward to getting them out this year.
Good luck on your project!

I used to collect/repair them in the past. Ended up selling most of them over the years. The only ones I have is a 20' square stern Grand Laker, 16' Kennebec that I built myself using an old 1900's form and a 14' White. Out of all of the ones I sold, I wish I kept the 1926 Old Town, 24'square stern canoe with sponsons. It was a double AA grade with mahogany ribs, deck, and gunnels. It was a "special order" because of the length and mahogany trim and such. It was defiantly a looker when I took it fly fishing!

I do more kayaking myself, especially with a fishing rod. When you hook a delicious bass, he pulls you around until he gets tired.
