I have started on my third refurbishment and this is the crank out of a UT 10656 XL Automatic plastic case saw and after looking at all the IPLs for these saws, this clutch does not appear in any of the diagrams so now I'm wondering if somebody stuck a different motor in these cases. What clutch is this typically found on?

That clutch is found on the newer xl’s and super 2’s and was also the replacement clutch for the older models.

Yip, what he said. The older XL/Super 2 saws started out with the S clutch which was prone to breaking. I'm guessing it was sometime in the mid to late 80s when Homelite came out with the 3 shoe replacement. They're the better clutch and interchangeable.

The one thing you have to address on the three-shoe vs the "S" shape clutch is the tool required to remove/install the clutch. The "S" Shape clutch goes on and off using a two prong removal tool. However, the three shoe used on thes XL family of saws uses a different tool. I have attached a video from Leon where he uses the Three pin clutch removal tool associated with the 350 ( i.e., smaller of the two three prong tools shown in the video) and he works it in as best he can without damaging the springs/shoes. The larger three prong tool that works on the Super XL/925/944. etc. is just too big to fit in without damaging something in my opinion. Therefore, I modified a Sears Craftsman- 21mm, 12 pt, 3/8" deep socket (Sears part # 50677, I bought one on ebay a while back for $9.95) with a grinder/cutoff wheel to fit the hub( i.e., cut out three teeth so that it fits down into/around the hub). This tool works great!!!! If you plan to work on a few XL family saws that have or will have the three shoe clutch this is a must have in my opinion. If you want greater detail on tooth size/spacing send me a private email. Leon's video link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ch7wUbnmQE

The correct spring part # is: 03961 NOT 13961 as I listed in the message/post directly above.
Sorry....

I actually went back and rewatched that video yesterday. There is a three prong aftermarket tool on Ebay but I don't think its the right one for this clutch so I ordered a 22mm socket I'm going to cut to fit around the hub as Leon mentioned in his video. I have already made a tool to get the S style clutch off so I'm good on those.
