Yep,I finally got a C-52 that the seller wasn't asking an arm & a leg for & it's in halfway decent shape. The seller said it had old rancid fuel in it & he dumped it out & put in fresh fuel, but it still weouldn't fire.I'm assuming I'll need to put new fuel lines in it & rebuild the carb. The seller also said it had spark & good compression.I'll see about that when I get the saw.
This C-52 now completes my collection of the C seris saws.I have a C-5,two C-7s,three C-9s,a C-71,a C-72,a C-51,,a C52,& two C-91s.The only thing I don't have are any of the gear drives.
Mpre to come on this thread when I get the saw & start tearing into it.

It would appear you have a hording problem. The only way to relieve yourself of this burdon is to send me all your saws then you will be free once again.......

I got the C52 today & it'll need some cleaning.I had to pull the tank cover off to see what happened to the fuel line. The seller said it had rotten gas in it & he dumped it out & put fresh fuel in,but it still wouldn't start. It wouldn't start because the fuel line was gone,it'd turned into black goo.The fuel line was at the bottom of the tank all dissolved into a ball of black goo & tyhe filter was wedged up against the fitting where the line attaches.I was able to soak the tank cover in Dawn dish detergent & it washed away the residue.I was able to scrub out the inside of the tank too.I pulled off the handle & carb first to get access to the fuel line & found a small glob of black goo on the end of the fitting, that's why I pulled the tank cover off. I guess I got ahead of myself here.First thing I had to do was get the recoil off in order to get the handle off. That was easier said than done. There was a bit of mag rot on the bolts that hold the recoil on.I put the heat gun to them & gave them a few good raps on a scrench with a hammer.Luckily they broke free. Here's a pic of what was left of the fuel line.

This saw is turning out to be a bite in my hind side.I rebuilt a different carb for it & it won't hold pressure.I thought "ok,I'll just rebuild the original carb",yeah right.I can't get the seat out of it,it's seized in place.I tried putting heat to it & hitting it with a socket on it & it still won't break loose.I found another carb, but the fuel inlet was on the opposite side.I changed turrets to make it right & it leaks down 7 psi in one minute, not acceptable.Anyone got any ideas?

Do you think the seat is bad? If not, I'd just clean it up, rebuild the rest of it and give it a shot.

It's just an automatic thing I do when I rebuild an HL carb, replace the seat.I thought of what you suggested after I made this post.If I have time tomorrow that's what I'll do.Chances are it'll do a leak down & won't hold pressure. The carb had some nasty residue in it & the inlet screen is pretty much shot.I'll have to borrow a screen from another carb.

I found an HL 141B on feebay for $20! It looks to be in good condition.I'll have this carb as an insurance policy,Lol.The carb on the C52 is a 141D.The only difference between the 141B & 141D is the direction of the fuel inlet on the turret. All I'll need to do is switch turrets for it to be on the correct side.I've already just put a longer fuel line in too & the carb worked fine on another C series saw.I think it was on a C9.

It's getting there slowly but surely.Today I put a new fuel line & filter in the tank & sealed the tank cover with MotoSeal.
I also put a rebuild kit in the original carb & it won't hold pressure either.I'll try the carb that has the slow leak down,it goes down to 2 psi after 90 seconds. If it doesn't work I'll have to wait for the feebay $20 special.

It's been a while since I worked on the C52.Yesterday I put a new fuel line on from the tank fitting to the carb & put the reart handle & recoil back on.Today I tried rebuilding the feebay special carb. What a mess that carb was when I got it,the diaphragms & gaskets were stuck to the carb like they were glued on.The carb was also missing the needles.I ended up getting the original carb to hold pressure that's acceptable. It does leak down, but very slowly now that I torqued down the screws that hold it together & replaced the gasket in the turret. It leaks down from 7 psi to 4 psi in 2 min.Tomorrow I'll put that carb back on the saw & mix up some fuel.Fingers are crossed, but probably not necessary.Sometimes ya gotta have a little faith in yourself.

I put the carb back on,mixed up some fuel,& pulled it over about 8 times before it popped. It's a runner! I need to fine tune the carb a bit & put the choke rod back on.I'll also ned to find a bar for it.The bar that was supposed to come with the saw got lost due to shoddy packing.I think I might have a muffler for it too, rather than the stack "muffler".I'll see about getting some piocs on here.

I found a bar for the C52,it measures 24 11/16 from tip to tail. How many DL do I need for a chain? The chain that came with the saw is way too short. Here are a couple of pics of the saw.

I wonder if the diaphragm housing is slightly warped?

In previous posts you mentioned slow leak down. The roledex of my mind popped up housing warpage. However, warped parts could be a symptom of a different issue entirely. Glad its a runner now.
