I recently bought a 450 homelite,it doesn't seem to have a safety throttle lock. Am I missing something or is this correct for this model saw?

It should have one. They're on the top forward end of the handle, right behind the air filter cover. It pushes forward. The tab that you push could have got broken off.

Looks like you replied to the other thread about the serial number. Yes, the lock I mentioned is the throttle lock. I misunderstood your question. By safety throttle lock if you meant a throttle interlock that has to be depressed so you can squeeze the throttle, there is not one. 450's never had that, I'm guessing because it was a pro model saw not really intended for weekend warriors. Of course, everything has them now.
Edit: Upon further review, it appears the SL and HG models had the throttle interlock. Don't know that I've ever seen any of those versions around my area. I'm guessing yours is not a SL or HG model either.

Thanks for the info. I suppose the thinking was it's more of a felling saw.

As far as the model i.d. I'm not sure what that would be. Or how to determine that

SL stands for "safety lever" or more commonly known today: chain brake. HG stands for "hand guard", which would be a front hand guard. If you have either, you'll know it!
