Hi all,I'm getting back into working on saws again! I've had this little 245 cherry for almost 5 yrs.now & have never had it out cutting.I got it running again after finally finding the adjustment screws today.I got it all together to find that the previous owner of the local saw shop cut my chain about 2 links too long (64).I fired the saw up only to find that the chain kept running at an idle.I remember that I put a new sprocket on that I got from Leon at the time.I pulled the drum off & everything looked good till I found a fiber liner that goes on the shoe laying on my work table.I've got a NOS clutch ordered from Leon.I'm assuming the clutch is left hand threaded? What tool do I use to take it off & put it back on?

After ordering the new clutch from Leon,I found that I had 3 replacement shoes in my parts lotGetting the old shoes off the spider was a breeze, but trying to get the new shoes back on isn't quite so easy with my bum hand that doesn't have it's strength back yet.I guess I'll just have to wait for the new clutch to come in the mail. Oh yeah,I almost forgot.I took a clutch off a parts 240 saw, they're supposed to use the same clutch. The 240 clutch didn't have the lining on the shoes & when I put it on the 245 all it did was bind with the drum.I tried it with thrust washers & without,it didn't make a difference.

Like most other models there were a couple clutches used and multiple drums!

Back to pure hell on this 245.I got the NOS clutch from Leon & put it on the saw.Of course while trying to tighten the clutch onto the crankshaft one of the springs had to come unhooked from the shoes.I was able to get it re-hooked & tightened on the crank, however the clutch would still bind on the drum. The only way to get it to stop binding was to eliminate the 2 thrust washers on the outer portion of the clutch. It has one thrust washer on the inside nearest the crankcase.
Now on to the chain & bar.Apparently the bar is not the correct bar for the saw.I have a 64 DL chain (brand new) that's way too loose even with the adjuster all the way out.The bar is a Homelite 18 in.bar,3/8 pitch & .050 gauge.I can't find any #s on the bar other than the .375 signifying the pitch.I found a new 18 in.Homelite bar on feebay that's supposed to be for the 240/245 saws.
Meanwhile,I was able to get the replacement shoes that have a lining on them fastened to the spider & springs hooked.I may have to go back to that style clutch.
