Hi Guys,
Last year or so I asked for suggestions for what to use to remove baked-on carbon/fuel from original paint.....without destroying the paint. I tried the suggestions and a ton of other things and nothing really worked, including WD40. I'm talking about 60 year old exhaust smooge that gets on the crankcase, etc. Some of the suggestions worked well on newer saws, but on the over a half decade plus really old stuff.......it didn't touch it.
But I stumbled upon what does. SeaFoam. Yeah, I know. In hindsight that's exactly what it's designed to do.........breakdown carbon and crap in the ring lands. I don't why I didn't think of testing it earlier.......guess I figured it was too strong for paint......but it's not. I rubbed really hard and not a lick of paint came off...........but the old hard as a rock carbon/oil gunk did! Don't know if I'd soak painted parts in it for any length of time.....but it doesn't seem you have to. So if you find yourself cleaning up an original old saw and need to remove those ugly exhaust products from paint.............try SeaFoam. I use the liquid on a rag, not the spray, but suspect it would work just as well.
Enjoy!
;O)
