hello! ive got an unknown homelite saw i picked up a few years ago from a shed at a farm, reportedly sat for 5 year and was the only saw on the farm since it was bought, it is in pretty bad shape but runs and want to save it. the clutch cover is white and green and says "XL AUTOMATIC" the body of the saw is reddish orange. the pull start cover paint is completely gone. on the side of the pullstart cover is a tag which reads the ser no as:1851219. anybody able to determine the year and model of this saw? is there any source of a new top end as it is wore out? appreciate the help and looking forward to learning more!

That saw was built in early 1965. can you tell that by the number? sounds about right considering the property it was bought for was purchased in late 1964

Unfortunately with 6 or 7 digit serial numbers, there are no factory records that decode the production date. What we do have (Thankfully!) is sales records kept by Joyce Wilson also known as Chainsawlady. She documented the model, serial number, and date of of sale so that gives us an approximate time of production.
