I just acquired an XL2 Automatic and have two questions. The serial number is 50102937...it has an electronic ignition. There are 2 sets of numbers stamped on the carb.....3 21-109 and 2 5-458....not sure if these numbers are meaningful. Question 1. Can anyone tell me what year the saw was produced? Question 2. What carb do I have? I read that this saw used a Walbro HDC-15 or a Tillitson HK-27A. I need to know what carb I have so I can order a rebuild kit. Thanks in advance for your help. RJ Attachments:

I hate to tell you this, but where that hole is on the top of the carb there should be a screw in there to hold the cover on.

Thanks for the help. I did find the date code. I can now order a rebuild kit. For the record, I removed the top cover screw to look inside.
I am also rebuilding my Dad's XL 12....not doing so well there....runs great at high speed but will not idle.Time to take the carb apart....again.
Thanks again.

I would like to thank Sterrysupersaws once again for his help on my XL2 Auto...the rebuild kit has been ordered. Last weekend I got a lot of 3 saws for free....the XL2 Auto...a newer Homelite 3314 and a Tanaka ECS-415. The 3314 runs perfect after a carb cleaning...parts are ordered for the XL2....now on to the Tanaka. From what I read the Tanaka is a lesser known but quality saw. It is complete...decent shape...has spark (electronic ignition) and good compression. I will take a good look at the saw and try to clean the carb to get it running just for fun. I would appreciate any input from the group on this saw...be it positive or negative....I enjoy learning about new things. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
