Forgot the question!…..age sucks!…oh! I have two fuel tanks both have a screw in the outboard upper corner rear one is a machine screw one is a square drive 3/4” long deck screw both in the exact same spot ,or I would assume a quickie redneck hole/ leak filler ,one in a classic 150 parts saw,the other my XL ,what is the purpose? I can’t envision a lot of hole making accident or wear problems there.OR am I wrong?

For a XL? There is supposed to be a duckbill valve in there, it lets air into the tank as fuel is being used

Ok,would it run at all without the duckbill valve or some way for air to get in or just run until the vaccum stopped the fuel flow? Would not a vented cap do the same?

A vented cap would do the same thing, but they never produced one for those models.

Thanks Leon,I was just wondering if that’s why this unit would not start,I don’t think so because it won’t fire other than a slight snap while cranking, even if I introduce mix directly into the carb. throat. I’m thinking I’ll take the carb. Apart.and look.and pressure test it. Oh,I did make sure the new fuel line was full to the carb. upon assembly.
