I cleaned this XL unit up ,fixed the cracked housing ,ran new fuel lines and figured out the oil lines and replaced them( diaphragm type),I pulled the flywheel,cleaned the points ,set them to .015,( they were pretty clean,no dirt or dust)replaced the flywheel,checked the coil /flywheel gap,.015,reinstalled engine in housing,repair of the case did not interfere anywhere,buttoned it with the starter, cranked it several times faintly popped a couple times like it wanted to start but no run,I adjusted the carb 1 turn on the low speed needle,the throttle i adj. until it just began to move( the throttle) there is no high speed needle just a small dent/plug about 3/16” where the high speed screw normally would be. The unit overall is a little greasy abit of dirt,but overall shows very little crud or sawdust,the pressure hole was filled by a screw the oil in it was really clean,I left that tank as is and replaced it with a spare tank from another unit that I cleaned up as it had the pressure line and a duckbill installed the outlet line I replaced with new line. Oh yess the XL had good spark,but I did not check if it would spark 1/4”.funny thing is it looks like very little use but ,oppsitley( my inventaword!)the case shows paint wearing off the plastic ,the plastic is a yellowish compound the paint kind of orange,red,not red maybe it was cleaned and painted at some point? Oil line was wrong though and the oil outlet line was almost goo,it was given to me by a friend who was moving.I also played with the low speed needle setting a little but to no avail.
