Greetings House of Homelite, I’m new here. I acquired a homelite xl-12 chainsaw about a month or two ago, and it really is a beautiful saw! It’s a cool metallic blue. I was hoping to get some help identifying the exact model and perhaps when it was made - also I’m not sure if it is running or not, so with the information I hope to gather I would be able to troubleshoot this specific saw if necessary. The serial # 3039126 I was not able to find any UT or model number on the exterior body of this chainsaw. I’m pretty much a noobie, have used some new saws in the woods camping in ORegon, but I would love to learn about how to use an maintain them! I made an account prior to posting this thread, but I wasn’t easily able to post pics with this opening post. I do have pics and will try n see about adding them in a follow up post I’ve been doing a bit of reading some posts and it is truly an awesome forum y’all have here, I can tell that there are a lot of great people who have alotta love for the Homelite tools here! Thanks I’m advance for any assistance! Happy Camper

Early to mid 1969. They did not use UT numbers that early.

Okay, thank you undee70ss for replying with an approximation on the date! I found a manual on Leon’s website with the name of: “Homelite Super XL-AO, XL-12 Chainsaw Owners Manual 23754-C.pdf“ Could you tell me if this is the correct owner’s manual for my Homelite XL-12? I would also be curious if there is a maintenance manual or any recommended reading that could help me get a basic knowledge base for owning and operating chainsaws like this XL-12. Thanks for the information & response, HappyCamper

Thanks a lot for confirming the manual as well as the link to the document showing the exploded view in detail of how the saw is assembled! Really great resources! I am getting ready to add my fuel/oil mix to get er fueled up n hopefully running! I got a gallon of regular 87 octane gasoline and I’m using some Lucas semi synthetic 2-stroke oil. I was planning on mixing it 40:1 ratio. From what I’ve read that seems like a safe way to go. Any input on the ratio fellas?

I 2nd that...40:1 with a quality oil like Lucas is no problem at all.
