I have a later XL-12 with no spark. It has a blue coil. Is this the infamous "blue coil of death"? What are my options or what is my best option? I have several older parts saw around. Can it be switched to and older coil? Attachments:

I haven't tried anything yet. If baking it is what I should try first, I'll do that. Curious also if I can switch it to an older coil?

I have done the opposite so should be able to put an old style coil and flywheel

As Trevor (xl130) said, you should be able to put an old style FW & coil on,BUT you most likely won't be able to put points on due to the lack of a lobe on the crank. You'll need to use a chip.Depending on what you have for the blue coil (as I understand it there were 2 different types - Phelon & Wico/Prestolite.There are aftermarket modules that are sold by LRB (Wico) & Proline (Phelon) for around $49.I've bought around 4 of the modules from LRB & they've held up well.I've also found that baking the modules is pretty much a waste of time because they'll only fail again.

Good call Ed! There's no lobe on the crank. I might try to bake the coil on this one. All I really want is to have a running example of a late xl-12 for my collection. If it doesn't work, no biggie. So back to coil baking. I've read all sorts of different opinions on it as far as temperature and time. What have you guys done with moderate success?? Again, I understand that this is a temporary solution at best if it works at all. Thanks, Ron

Dang. Forgot about the points lobe! Yeah baking is ok. I have had mixed success. I put them in the oven on a piece of tinfoil at the lowest setting possible. On my oven it’s 150 Fahrenheit. Anywhere from 3-10 hours has worked for me.
