Well, if the diaphragm weren't broken, I could. That was what I meant by "compromised." You can see through the membrane. Oh, ok. I assumed since it was oiling before that the diaphragm/plunger was in tact.

Are you satisfied with the way it is working now? Unless that saw has some special meaning to you and you want to keep it original with the diaphragm. My old parts XL has a diaphragm, I could pull the parts for you. Personally, I wouldn't put any money into your saw unless it has sentimental value. I'm using that saw for an Evil Dead project I've always wanted to do. I don't want this saw oiling anyway.

It does not have sentimental value but I do enjoy using the saw and I find its design robust and simple, which I appreciate in any machine. Are the XL saws somewhat undesirable for some reason?

There are so many around, supply is high. Also, people don't like oil all over the place, LOL.

That all makes sense. I did some browsing and found a parts saw locally, which surprised me.
Is there another saw of similar size/design in the Homelite line that would be preferable?

I love the Super 2. I believe the engine is a little bigger and the handle bar is longer. It's worth looking into.

Thanks, I've seen them around too. Once I gain an appreciation for the design with any outdoor power unit, I kinda go all in and try to learn all about them. Time to own another and start collecting!
I'll browse back into the forums and get a handle on things and come back when I have either an update on this XL, or a Super2.
