I bought a brand new 350 SL last year. I disassembled it and installed new lines and new intake boot. I changed the duck bill valves in the fuel and oil caps and rebuilt the carb. The first time I used this saw the fuel was boiling, the outside temperature was below 40 degrees. It was running a 16 inch bar and cutting for maybe 30 minutes, just casual cutting. This saw is new and is not full of saw dust to plug up the cooling areas. What could be causing this?
What do you use for gas? Seems like most of the boiling fuel issues we've seen around here typically evolve around ethanol gas. Switched to straight gas and usually solve the issue.

Thanks Billy. I only run ethanol free 91 octane. I found the problem. There are holes in the bottom of the muffler. The heat doesn't flow out the side of the saw, it builds up underneath and rises up into the saw. The paint on the bottom of the handle bar brace burned off. The muffler seemed fine when I removed it when I first disassembled this saw. If I remember correctly, the seller stated it might have been sitting in some water, so that explains why the muffler was weak and blew open. I'm pretty sure this is the problem, I ordered a new muffler on ebay. Now I have to clean the handle brace and paint. What a way to ruin the paint on a brand new saw.
First one I've seen like that. Many have had the muffler come apart in the center but never seen a hole in the bottom yet. Time keeps changing everything.

The new muffler came in the mail today. Tried to install it, mounting holes won't line up, off by just a hair. The mount attached to the side of the muffler is slightly crooked, just enough to cause a problem. I tried all angles and configurations with the screws trying to line it up. I tried bending and stretching the mount in the bench vise, but it just won't line up. I can grind the hole wider, but that would leave only a tiny amount of steel around the screw hole. I thought about welding more on top of the mount and grinding it nicely and grinding the screw hole. My other thought was cutting the tab off and adding just a little more metal to the tab. I hope this makes sense, difficult to explain.
That was my first thought, but I didn't want to run it without the gasket. Have you tried running saws without the gasket? Did you notice any difference?
Thank you so much billy. That was driving me crazy. I installed the new muffler without issue. The problems came when I was putting the case back together. The muffler was pushing out the case on the exhaust side, a few whacks to the muffler with a rubber mallet solved the issue. It's done. Thanks again.
