I've been away for awhile. I double fractured my foot in early December and just had the pain stop a week ago. Now that I'm back on my feet I bought 3 more saws this week. I bought a 450 with both high and low adjustments on the carb. My other 450 only has the low side adjuster. I bought it on ebay, for too much money of course. The seller didn't know anything about the saw, but all the lines and intake boot were replaced, and whoever did the work was no slouch. Again, I am super lucky because the saw has monster compression. No problems or questions on this one. Used it yesterday on some dead standing hardwood and it just screamed through it, so excited. Two things I want to share about the differences between my two 450's are that they have different sized spark plugs. That surprised me. The serial number is missing on my new one but the other saw serial number is 672770088. Also, the carb pulse setup is different . One mounts directly to the saw and the other runs a line to the carb. I wonder when Homelite made the switch?

Have you run the saw where there's no impulse hose? I don't see how that is possible with an intake boot setup. The carb cannot get it's pulse from the same passage as the fuel inlet to the engine. The earliest IPL for the 450 shows an impulse hose, so I'm very curious about this saw. Any chance you can post some pics of the carb area?

You're correct, I was wrong. I was writing from memory in the original post. I was remembering a different carb that I tried using on that saw. I had another post about that saw when I bought a carb with both adjustable high and low speeds. The carb with both low and high didn't have the impulse line. I bought that carb from a guy in Washington state, he claimed it came off a 550. So, if you want, I can give you his name in a personal message and you can ask him how it came off a 550 when the carb doesn't use an impulse line. I should have sent it straight back to him and had my money refunded, but I kept the carb, you never know when you might need it.

That does make more sense! I'm guessing he sent it by mistake?

He didn't send it by mistake. The carb matched the pictures he posted on ebay. The ebay listing specifically stated the carb came out of a 550 and could be used on a 450. I even asked him a question about it and he was very rude to me. I'm tempted to call him out, but I won't. I'll just take my business elsewhere.

Yeah I'm not seeing a ported pulse setup on a 550 carb either. Probably best to just deal with folks who know what they have. I tried to tell someone once that their ebay listing for a Homelite part wasn't accurate, thinking they'd probably just posted the wrong picture. After they were done being as rude as possible to me, insulting me and telling me I didn't know anything, I said never again.

I guess I have a different philosophy...if someone tells me I've made an error, I'm at least willing to take a peak and see if they're right! Mistakes happen!
