finally I have had a chance to work on the ignition on my C-5 I found an ignition module from another saw performed the test in the saw tutorials and still no spark. Does anyone know if I can get one of the electronic ignition modules that replaces the points and condesor for a C-5 saw? I appreciate any help or advice Thanks J

When you say ignition module I'm assuming you mean a coil. Coils are usually black and your C5 has a coil. Ignition modules are usually blue and contain a coil and some "electronic points." If you did the checks and swapped the coil with no luck and you are sure the points are working correctly, then you very well could have a bad condenser. Did you use the "C and Like Series Coil testing"? Read through this thread too: houseofhomelite.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tech&action=display&thread=1121

Yes, I meant the coil.... it tests out at 8.6K ohms and I tried the condensor test and the ohm meter registers a number then dissipates to zero, and does the same when I reverse the ground. What does this mean? Can I replace the condensor? Thanks for the reply I appreciate the help J

What does this mean? Can I replace the condensor? Thanks for the reply I appreciate the help J This means your condensor is "loading" then unloading which is the sign your condensor is probably OK. Appears your coil is within acceptable specs as well. A common problem is the spark plug wire may have come loose from the coil. It screws on a threaded stud and can be removed, checked for continuity and reinstalled. It is also a good time to check the little wire "coil" inside the spark plug boot. The end of this coil just pierces the plug wire core and could have vibrated(or corroded) loose. Are you sure your plug is good ? Another option(if your coil is good) is to replace the points and condensor with an ignition chip(10-15$). Keep us informed as to your progress. ;D

I went through and retested all the components and the points were faulty, I swiched them out with those from a replacement unit I got off Ebay and I have spark. I got the saw started and it started to pull fuel from the tank. The carb needs some tuning but I though I'd give the neighbors a brake until tomorrow. Thanks to all for the support and advice I definately would have been stuck without it. thanks j

Good to hear you have spark. Does your C5 have the original style muffler - an aluminum "box" with 5 slots cut in the end? If so, yes they are a loud saw. Keep us posted on the progress.
