I looked through the service manual section for the XL & Super 2 & it doesn't say anywhere what size the rope is in length or how many mm.it should be.I did find the length is supposed to be 46 in.,but nowhere about the thickness in mm.

I use all Stens pull cord. I want to say I used # 3.5 (7/64" dia) on my Super 2's. You might be able to get a #4 (1/8" dia) in there but I can not verify that. If no one else chimes in ill pull one of them out and measure but it will be this evening.

We use mostly #4 on small saws. Homelite kinda went back and forth between #3 1/2 and #4 over the years but #4 is usually ok, especially on double wrap starter pulleys.
As for length, all that will fit on the pulley.

Some IPL's used to list rope on the last page under accessories, too. Those just show the rope size and bulk spool part number if I recall correcttly, so no length specified.

4.5mm is too thick. I use 3.5mm on little saws.
