I recently watched Leon's video about replacing clutch shoes and he mentioned it hurting your fingers if you are arthritic. This is what I do and it's easy on the hands. I place the shoe on the plate first. I compress the spring using some knipex pliers and then use a large flat screwdriver to press the spring down from the pliers into the clutch. The knipex pliers are very adjustable in small increments so they work well for this. Hardest thing about it is making sure you have a good grip on the spring to avoid a missile flying across the shop. Hope this helps someone.
