The info sheet for a 4-20 on the acres site list the gas/oil mix at 10-1. I always understood the older homies took 16-1. I believe the acres site info sheet is wrong. Am I correct

20 MCSFUEL OIL RATIO: 1/2 pint to 1 gallon RECOMMENDED FUEL OCTANE: Regular MIX OIL SPECIFICATION: SAE 30 engine oil 26 LCSFUEL OIL RATIO: 10:1 RECOMMENDED FUEL OCTANE: Regular MIX OIL SPECIFICATION: SAE 30 The LCS shows the same 10:1 ratio as the 4-20. I think we will have to wait to hear from someone with an LCS owners manual to see how it compares with AS. My MCS owerner manual is at the lake and I won't be there this weekend but AS shows 16:1 for it.

I can't possibly imagine that running 16:1 would hurt anything. Oils are better these days than the good ole SAE 30 non-detergent

16:1 should be fine or even 32:1 with the correct two cycle oil. We've had this subject up before and basically, in the '50s, all that was available was non-detergent oils. The "standard" mix was 16:1 - a gallon of gas and a cup of oil - easy to do and it was probably better to have too much than not enough. If you look at engine design not much has changed in Homelites. My MCS has a chrome cylinder, roller bearings or ball bearings - no bushings, cast iron rings, and an aluminum piston. The only thing that has really changed it the top RPMs that newer saws run. The MCS is governed to 4000 where the 750 will top 10,000. I think the question that is being asked it if the Acres site has a few errors. It would be interesting to find out how all that data got entered into web pages. A typo could have occurred and with some copy and pasting, the error could have ended up on more that one model. Just my opinion..

My 26LCS manual shows 16:1 as the correct ratio.
However....I pay no attention to that nearly 60 year old piece of information. I use the same fuel in ALL my saws, from my Mac 101b kartsaw to a Stihl 026, this 26LCS, and all saws in between. Roughly 40:1 synthetic mix, 93 octane.

Chris...I tend to agree, the 16:1 is oil rich and was probably required due to the lower quality of oil at the time of production. I have had good luck with modern oil at 32:1 in the rest of my saws and will probably do the same with the 4-20. Thanks

Just throwing in my two cents worth,....I run a little generous 32:1 mix on all my saws.....probably calculates out to be about 28:1 or so. I used to use 16:1 in all my old Homelites....they smoke a lot less at the mixture I use now. I have never tried 40:1. I assume with the new oils it would be ok,...I have just been too chicken to try it.

BTW, Homelite's 16:1 oil was 30 weight and their 32:1 was 40 weight

Craig, I ordered one of these from this guy for the SXL and was a little disappointed at the quality/quantity of the useful info in the manual. Do you think it's worth the $8 due to the complexity(gear drive) of this saw

Craig That dude sells photocopies of all sorts of manuals and the quality is acceptable but not outstanding. I do think there would be some value if you were to turn a saw and had the manual and an IPL.
