I was given a XL12 with Serial # 44544312 and LOT # D6133 and I know absolutely nothing about these or chainsaws period for that matter. Can someone help me with the age? One thread suggested the first number would be the year so 1974 I guess? It is red and black though. The thread also said the next three numbers are the day of the year which 454 is obviously not possible. I’m guessing the nomenclature thread I was reading is different than what I have. Mine may be 80’s and that thread was 70’s?? Not sure. Please help. Also are these worth decent money? $200-$300?? Or just $50 or $75 or $2 bucks. I have no clue.

I can't help you with the serial number but have an idea of the value. XL-12's typically aren't hot sellers like some of the other more collectible models. A Super XL has more displacement and an automatic oiler. It doesn't bother me to pump the oiler but automatics are more popular.
It would take a near NOS saw to bring $200-300. That saw looks to be in pretty good condition so if it starts up and runs well, I'd say right in the neighborhood of $100, maybe a little more.

When people find out I collect chainsaws, XL12's and Mac 10-10's wind up on my front porch with no notice.. Sometimes a year later a friend would ask if I got the XL12 he left, it was his Grand Pa's. At any given time I will have a dozen of them. If a friend wants an old saw to try out, I give them an XL12, or one of the XL12 variants. Don't get me wrong, they are good saws, that's why I give them to friends. They do have value. I have seen them in running condition go for $150.

I hear ya. A buddy of mine wanted to borrow a saw several years ago, so I loaned him a nice late model XL-12. I haven't seen it in 10-15 years but that's ok. That's why I loaned it to him. I keep running 360's & 925's, etc.

I keep running 360's & 925's, etc. That just reminded me. A UPS friend wanted a saw to mill with and was asking what to get. In the mean time, my cousin was at an auction. The auctioneer was trying to get a bid on a C5 and a 330. He got mad and said "A Dollar" to Tommy. Tom came home and gave me the saws. Turned out the C5 was a super runner, and the 330 was a non runner. I gave my friend the C5 and he wanted to pay me. I told him for payment he could rebuild the 330 for me. Told him the plastic manifolds were known to go bad. He put a manifold on it, a kit in the carb and it ran great. He told me to come get it 5-6 years ago. He's a cover driver and I never know what shift he's on. Maybe I'll try and get it back this week end?
