Hello everyone,
I found this forum once I got an old Super 2 chainsaw and started fixing it up. Glad for all the info kicking around here.
rebuilt the carb (HDC-27 date stamped 5-1975), replaced all the fuel and oil lines and filters, replaced the duckbill, converted the oiling to pressure oil rather than trusting the ancient diaphragm, replaced the air filter and make a little gasket to go between the carb and the air box as there didnt appear to be one when I got the saw.
I also tossed rocks in the one piece brazed muffler and shook it around to get any rust busted up and then soaked it in evapo rust for a day or so. cleaned it up and hit it with some BBQ/Stove paint and it looks pretty good. didnt want any particles to get sucked back into the exhaust port as the piston looks really good with no scoring.
Fired the saw up yesterday and it wouldn't idle worth a darn as the throttle linkage is a bit bent and was hanging the throttle open... and when trying to fix it, I accidentally broke it so im waiting for one of those to show up. in the mean time, ill bend up a piece of electric fence wire (looks close to the same thickness) so I can run the saw. after removing the linkage i was able to set the idle with the screw no problem and could blip the throttle with a screwdriver to make sure it was working.
it runs pretty well and pulls through a log decently as i cut a little when the throttle was hanging as it definitely would go full throttle lol. im running 25:1 mix for now as 16:1 seemed unreasonable given modern oils. chain is oiling decently with winter weight chain oil. gotta touch up the chain with the sharpener and cut some more wood today if i can bodge the throttle linkage back together.
One question I do have is about the carb. It has a HDC-27 which only has a low speed fueling adjustment screw. what model carb would be the same as the 27 but have both screws so I can possibly find a used carb and transfer the super 2 specific linkages/levers over? I would kinda like to have the high adjustment available though the saw does run pretty well.
Thanks,
Brian
