Hello all! This is my first post on the forum. Looks like a lot of experienced and friendly people here. I have a blue super xl automatic SN. 13492873 I cannot find the UT number on it. It would make ordering parts easier if I had it. with just the serial number, is there a UT # close that would help me when ordering parts? Thanks

By your serial #,it looks to be built on Dec 15 1981. See if these IPL's will help you out. 19834 or 19834-A

Sorry. Sometimes I forget that members are new to chain saw repair. Lots of great information on the home page. Keep us posted on your progress.

The problem I am having is, When I start it up it will idle but when get the rpm's up it starts skipping and will not smooth out. I completely rebuilt this saw about ten years ago and cut a lot of wood with it. I did a refresh about eight months ago, rings, bearings, crank seals, gaskets and rebuilt the carburetor. it will hold 6 psi forever. I have never replaced any Ignition or coil parts. I need to figure out which Ignition system I have because I'm leaning that way. It has a wico flywheel on it. I think the coil needs to be specific to the flywheel? what else could cause this Hi speed skipping? I did put another new sparkplug in it and pulling the starter it has a lot of blue /white fire. I'm kind of lost. thanks. Ken

Your SUPER XL-AO sn:13492873 was built in 1971. Refer to SXL IPL: 24228 revision 1 for any needed parts.
Wico and Phelon ignition systems are not interchangeable.
Suggest inspecting the points for cleanliness and proper gap.

Got the sxlao working. The coil was the problem and while it was apart, I cleaned and gaped the points. Now that it has a good fire under it, I had to tune the high side on the carb. I cut about a half cord today, spark plug is burning light tan. It's been a while since this saw ran this good. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

What issue did you find with the coil? Thanks.

I'll be honest, I did not test the coil, I guess I just got luckey. This SXLAO is hardley ever sitting on the shelf so if something ever changes, I can feel it. Strange thing is, I finished cutting and it was running fine and the very next day it started skipping like crazy. Still working good.
