Since there's no category for the 180 or 190,I thought it'd be appropriate to post here.I've had this 190 for about 3 yrs.now & haven't done anything with it till recently.I thought there was a problem with an engine bearing because I could pull it over with no plug in it,but as soon as I put the plug back in it'd bind up.I pulled the recoil off & it worked fine.....until I pulled it apart today.I had to rewind the spring twice because the pulley would cause it to unwind. After further insdpection I found that the pulley was worn badly in one spot where it hooks onto the spring.I had a new pulley on hand & installed it & now I think it'll work fine.I'll have to reinstall the engine back into the case to check it out.I don't know if you can see the bad spot in the pic or not.

The 190 is kind of a unique Homelite as it is the only one that I know of to feature self sharpening.

Those old rewind pulleys were pretty poor to start with. Hope the new one you had was the newer double wrap design, they're a nice improvement. Sometimes that round loop on the end of the rewind spring that hooks into the pulley can benefit from squeezing the loop shut slightly with needle nose pliers. I've seen some that would let go. Squeezed them together a bit to make a little more "hook" on the end and they would stay engaged just fine after that.
And yes, the 190 is a fairly rare bird!

It's been a while since I posted on this saw.Yesterday I put new oil lines in,new duck bill & a new fuel filter & a freshly rebuilt Zama carb.Today I finished it up & noticed that the spark was intermittent.I had a problem with the recoil again,so I've gotta go through that again.I suspect the intermittent spark could be a bad switch, bad ignition module,or a bad plug wire.I'll have to chase that down. The saw does have lots of compression.

Good luck figuring that out Ed. Looks like you got her about ready to run. By the way how have you been recovering from your back surgery? If you’re working on saws that is obviously a good sign.

Back Surgery, been there done that. I hope all went well and recovery is fast. Now, just when I think I know a little about Homelite, you drag out a saw Ive never seen. Guessing they were prior to the Super 2s?

The 190 was discontinued in 1981 according to Acres' site,so they were in production at the same time as the Super 2s.
As far as my back surgery goes,I'm all healed up,but in constant pain.I go in next week for some injections to try to help.At this point they're grasping at straws.I was better off before I had the surgery,IMO.

I got the recoil fixed today,so that's as far as I got.The saw will only run on a prime. So much for sending the carb out to be repaired.I even tried another new fuel filter. This saw is beginning to piss me off.

My wife had lower back surgery several years ago. Still pain. She got a simulator put in a few years ago. They have change programs on the simulator many times. It seems to be of little benefit. Now she is looking into a pain pump to treat the pain area directly with medication instead of taking the high powered pills. The kind of pills that sell for big $ on the street. Hopefully you will heal and be pain free.

I have a younger brother who has had several back surgeries as well as me (5 each). He had a stimulator & pain pump put in & then had them taken back out.He just sits in his chair watching t.v.on a daily basis. That's not me,I have to keep moving.I've pretty much given up on being pain free.I'll be 65 in June & I work on saws on a daily basis (usually) because I love the work so much.It keeps my mind active & off my constant pain, good therapy.I also get to learn something new all the time.I think back in retrospect & wish I would've picked up this hobby yrs.before I did.

This saw is beginning to piss me off. Exactly why I try not to mess with any "case" saws lol! Hang in there man.

I figured out why the little bugger would only run on a prime. It seems that the lo screw must be turned out from being seated,Lol.I'd forgotten that I had the screw turned in all the way.Once I turned it out it fired up.I think I might've bent the throttle linkage though. It wants to hang up & stay on high idle till I kick it down.I'll get it eventually.

Glad its coming around! I know when Im battling a saw sometimes I just have to walk away for a little while. seems to be when I come back I see the simpler things I have over looked.

It lives! I finally figured out what was going on with this little she devil. The throttle linkage rod was bent just enough that it was hanging up on the choke lever.I put a different rod on it & a new bar adjuster with bar & new chain & it fired up & ran very nicely. It still sticks a bit with the throttle, but it comes back down & idles great.

Definitely a unique little devil to have on the shelf. I think I only ever saw one of them.

I think it's the only Sharpmatic model I've ever seen. Homelite that is.
