What is the best thing to use for cleaning the inside of a gas tank? My dad’s 1974 XL-12 has been sitting for a long time and the inside has varnish and bits of the old fuel line unit.

The white vinegar works good on the varnish, but doesn't do much for the fuel line that's turned to black goo.I had a fuel tank on an XL-102 with the black goo fuel line & I ended up using Goof Off graffiti remover. You could probably use acetone as the graffiti remover is high in acetone.Don't let it sit in the tank for a long period of time though (graffiti remover or acetone).I just basically did a 5 min."rinse" & it worked well.
