I am restoring a model 17a homelite chainsaw and can find nothing on this saw. I have a parts manual for a model 17 but the the only differance I can see is the carb and the ignition coil and possibly the flywheel might be different. Can any one give me any info on the model 17a. The nameplate is in good shape so I know its the correct model. My grandfather bought it new around 1948.

Just checking over my spec sheets and I think there was a Homelite 17 introduced Feb. 1954, It was superseded July 1956 by Model 17L. The main difference was the carburetors. The first one had the first diaphragm carburetor HP. witha copper gas line. The L had a HL carb with a rubber gas line. We started as a Homelite dealer in Nov. 1951 and the only model on the line then was the 26LCS.
