In a debate with a fellow collector that us not on this forum.. The debate is when did the Terry plant change the color of the Xla from the Christmas paint scheme to the all red.. I always figured 1976 was the last year, I have never seen one past that year, but own all red one tjae are from 77, 78.
My friend seems to think they did Christmas colors until 80..im 90% he is wrong, does anyone own a 77 and up xl automatic with Christmas colors??

The green/red production overlapped the red/black production by a good 4 (or more) years, from the serial numbers I have seen. I think they were made alongside one another, and heard '78 was the last year for the green and red colors.
I'm a little unsure when they stopped making the blue/white XLAOs, but have seen 1973 serials in all 3 color schemes. That seems to be when blue/wht went away and red/blk began. The green/red also changed red paint at that point, going from that early red which fades to almost pink, to the more brilliant fire engine red that we're used to seeing on 70's and 80's saws.

Haven't seen a Terry built, Red/Green/White, XL-Automatic Type:10003 past 1974. Starting in 1975, most if not all, Type:10003 saws were Red/Black that I've viewed. Possibility of another R/G/W XL-Automatic, or likely swapping starter/drive-case covers and handlebars onto a Red XL-AO.
