I put new cylinder, piston and gas tank on the Super XL I had bought last year. When I cranked it up a two weeks ago after this work, it ran fine but the sprocket bearing and race were out of round and were heating up. I ordered a new sprocket, bearing and race and installed them Friday. Saw was still running good. I started cutting some small trees down on my property. It ran really good for about 20 minutes then started acting like it was starving for fuel.
I replaced fuel filter, fuel line and spark plug. I put a new duck bill valve in the gas cap. I took the carb apart and couldn’t see any issues. A little bit of trash on the inlet screen and that was it.
So I think I got some bad gas or I developed an air leak somewhere. I replaced the cylinder/crankcase gasket and both crankshaft seals last year.
So, next I will try fresh gas. Then I will try the gaskets at the carb/Reed valve and reed valve/crankcase locations. After that I will put a new carb kit in it. I could swap my carb from my other Super XL and try that to see if it is the carb.
I am at a loss because it was running so good at first. Now it will idle but sputters when I open the throttle. I have tried several times to adjust the carb since it started running bad but no luck so far.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Could be the crankshaft seal on the drive side got too hot and was ruined when I had the sprocket bearing problem

Checked the crankshaft seal on the sprocket side and I had put the wrong seal on there. I put a SKF 6120 instead of a 6130. I guess I need to check the flywheel side to see if I swapped both. I guess the seal was okay until it got hot. It is .062 inches difference on the outside diameter.

Looks like the seal fixed me up. Got the saw to crank and do more than idle. I will be getting a Mityvac pressure vacuum pump eventually so I can pressure test. Made up some gaskets and blanking plates today. Cheapest place to get a pump seems to be eBay.
