I know this is a tough question but what is something like that worth? It would be cool in the collection but I have no idea what to offer. Any input is appreciated.

Well.......as the saying goes.....it's worth what someone will pay for it. They come up at military vehicle meets pretty often. That one was made at the very end of WWII and wasn't actually used in the war. The connectors it uses only came into play at the very end of the war and by then it was just about over. They were then standardized from that point on and were just phased out a few years ago. Looks to be part of a cold start kit for an armored vehicle, so having the rest of the kit would obviously raise its value significantly. NOS generators are pretty commonplace at military swap meets, and typically don't go for much. Being 30 volts it doesn't have much use unless you get it rewound, which sort of destroys the historical value of it. I'd say at at meet it would probably have a price on it of $200, and the seller would take almost half that and help you load it in your truck. But you can never be sure now-a-days. You're looking at it from the 'Homelite' collector's perspective......at a meet it's being looked at as an accessory for a prized military vehicle. Might be a big difference there. I've seen 'military' chainsaws sell for a couple bucks.....and one went for over $300 on Ebay the other day. Right place, right time and the luck of the draw all come into play. Personally, I wouldn't offer him anything.......I'd ask him to tell you what he wants for it. It's his, and I'm sure he's got a number in his head. You going first either pisses him off or gets you to pay too much. Just my two cents....and worth significantly less than that...for sure.

Thanks for the input Bob! I texted the guy and asked if he had a price in mind. He came back with $300. I was thinking more like $100-150 so I just said I would have to think about it. Plus it's 3 hours away...
