This question serves many of the Homelite saws, however I am working on my C72. How do you remove the retaining ring that keeps the bearing in place on the crankshaft? I want to replace the ball bearing on the ignition end of the crank. I've tried a dental pick, but unable to get it under the retaining ring. Is there a special tool for removing them?

Homelite probably did have a special tool, but I use two flat blade screwdrivers....small blade to get it started out of the groove and a larger blade to hold it up and work around. It's a PITA and it works best if you put the crank into a vise using wood blocks to avoid damage.
